About Soles of Luv
Soles of Luv was born in the heart of founder Cathy Crawford, after learning of a need that existed in the elementary school located next to her parish. It was brought to her attention that there were many children within the school who had no socks or underwear. In addition, many of them were wearing a parent or older sibling’s shoes, that were either way too big or small, and often tattered. Cathy, who was already leading initiatives to feed and clothe the homeless, took it upon herself to attempt to meet the need, and provide for these students that most of us take for granted. She contacted the school, and together with a group of friends, began providing new shoes and socks for the children who were in the greatest need. Word of this spread quickly, and soon schools began to contact her asking for her help, and what is now Soles of Luv was formed.
Since its inception, Soles of Luv has given literally hundreds of shoes, socks, book bags, and other items to school children throughout the Mahoning Valley. A team of volunteers arrives on the scene truly bringing with them Soles filled with Luv. They fit every child properly and leave them with a new pair of athletic shoes, restoring not only their comfort, but their dignity. “Our reward is watching their little faces light up, and seeing their smiles,” describes Cathy.
Soles of Luv is a non-profit organization funded by generous donors and corporate sponsorships. The mission of Soles of Luv is simple, to supply new shoes and socks to the children of the Mahoning Valley, but their impact is far-reaching and long-lasting to those they serve.
"Often the children's existing shoes are in such bad shape they are tripping over them because the soles are coming off, or they are so tight their toes are curled."
"A Hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the type of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world may be different because
I was important in the life of a child."
